1. Context.

Clients will be made aware of this policy for the use of video, ensuring that they are able to make an informed choice about working in this way and if subsequent video recordings may be stored or shared. It will be emphasised that this is an option, not a necessity. This comes under Au Milieu’s Data Protection Policy, which may be made available to the client(s) on request.

2. Information to be shared with client(s).

At Au Milieu, we often use video as part of our service. Video recordings provide us with a unique opportunity to observe and think with you about interactions between you and your baby or toddler.

Many of our therapists use a technique generally called Interaction Guidance. This is an intervention which aims to enhance the communication and understanding between you and your child. Everyday interactions between you and your baby or toddler are filmed for a brief time and then edited to produce a short film that focuses on the positive. In the review sessions that follow you will have the opportunity to reflect with the therapist on the successful and enjoyable moments and to think together about what you are doing that is contributing towards these positive moments of being together. Your ideas are important. The review focuses on strengths and potential rather than drawing attention to problems or weaknesses.

The process of standing back and looking at yourself on screen often enables parents to analyse what they were doing when things were going ‘better than usual’. In this way you are helped to make an informed decision about how you would like to improve situations that are more problematic.

Many people feel apprehensive about being filmed and seeing themselves on video. This is quite natural. However, our experience is that many parents find it to be a very positive and rewarding way of working as well as a powerful way to bring about desired changes.

Video Recordings are also really helpful for us to use for training purposes. We often train professional audiences such as therapists and health visitors in different aspects of our work. We will seek separate written consent to use video recordings for this purpose. If you do not wish for recordings to be used for this purpose it will have no influence on the service that we provide for you.

3. Video Privacy.

Videos are taken using password protected mobile phones or dedicated video recorders and then transferred via ‘Google Photos’ onto a password protected encrypted laptop or pc for editing. These devices are owned by Au Milieu. During the therapy video is kept securely on these devices without using any names as reference. The video will be edited locally on a laptop or pc using either Descript, Final Cut Pro, Canva  or Microsoft PowerPoint. At the end of therapy the video recordings will be shared with you via SharePoint or WeTransfer. All video recordings will be permanently deleted within 2 months after that, unless you have given written permission for the video to be used for training purposes. All recordings are subject to Au Milieu’s Data Protection Policy.

If permission is given for the video to be used for training purposes the film will be transferred onto Au Milieu’s secure SharePoint and deleted from all other devices. It will be kept for five years, after which time the consent has expired and the video will be permanently deleted unless further consent is sought from you. Names will not be used if recordings are shown for training purposes. Consent can be withdrawn at any time during this five years period and the videos will then be permanently deleted.
