Parent-Infant Psychotherapist Yvonne Osafo Presented with Churchill Medallion

*South West London, June 13, 20XX* – Yvonne Osafo, a distinguished parent-infant psychotherapist hailing from South West London, received the esteemed Churchill Medallion during a prestigious award ceremony held in London on Wednesday, June 13. This Medallion commemorates Yvonne’s successful completion of her overseas research as a Churchill Fellow.

Yvonne’s Fellowship journey took her across Sweden, Norway, and the USA to delve into best practices in parent-infant psychotherapy. Her aim was to learn from leading experts in this domain and subsequently contribute to enhancing parent-infant psychotherapy in the UK and the training of professionals in the field. The knowledge and practices she gained during her travels will be applied to benefit the parent-infant psychotherapy practice in the UK.

Reflecting on her Fellowship experience, Yvonne highlighted the significance of early intervention in nurturing strong parent-infant relationships during the first two years. Her work, grounded in psychodynamic theory and developmental science, focuses on assisting parents-to-be and parents of infants up to 24 months. Through collaborative efforts with various community services, she aims to strengthen bonds, offer insights on child development, and create a nurturing environment for both parents and babies.

Yvonne expressed that her overseas exposure has provided fresh insights into developing a comprehensive national strategy for working with parents and infants. This approach involves nurturing and professionally developing a workforce that can effectively support struggling parents and babies in forming healthy bonds.

Drawing inspiration from Isaac Newton’s quote, “If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants,” Yvonne emphasised that her Churchill Fellowship allowed her to stand on the shoulders of experts in Scandinavia and the USA, providing her with the confidence to effect significant change in the UK. She encourages individuals passionate about making a difference in their chosen fields to consider applying for a Churchill Fellowship.

The Churchill Fellowships were established to honor the legacy of Sir Winston Churchill and have awarded over 5,400 Fellowships since their inception. These Fellowships provide funding for UK citizens to travel overseas for 4-8 weeks to research ideas that can make a positive impact on their communities or professions in the UK.

Yvonne’s Churchill Medallion was presented by renowned photojournalist Nick Danziger, who embarked on his own Churchill Fellowship journey in 1982. The ceremony was held at Church House, Westminster, which served as Winston Churchill’s temporary office during World War Two.

The distinctive Churchill Medallion, designed by world-famous glass artist Professor Brian Clarke, features a digital image of Winston Churchill in blue cloisonné enamel on a solid silver disc. The reverse side is engraved with the Fellow’s name. Clarke’s intent was to make the medallion radiate with the reflected light of silver, showcasing the iconic portrait of Sir Winston Churchill.
